christian audigier wholesalePOLICE are hunting a serial bag-snatcher preying on elderly women after he broke a pensioner's arm in his latest attack.
The mugger has now been linked to four robberies on elderly women, mainly in the Calder Road area of Sighthill.
In the latest attack on Kingsknowe Road North at around 3.50pm yesterday, he targeted a 77-year-old woman.
She had started speaking to the man when he tried to pull her handbag from her.
She struggled and the mugger punched her on the shoulder, knocking her to the ground.
Witnesses saw the man run off down a nearby lane.
The pensioner had to be taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and it was later discovered that she had suffered a broken arm. She also suffered grazing to her knees from the fall.
A police spokesman said: "What is particularly disturbing about this case was that the attacker did not seem to care about injuring his victim in the assault, but instead was so focused on getting the bag that he has actually broken the woman's arm."
The man is also thought to be responsible for an attack on a pensioner in Sighthill on Monday.
The 75-year-old victim was walking along Weir Court at 8.55pm when the mugger struck, ripping her handbag from her shoulder before running off. The woman was left badly shaken by her ordeal.

The mugger grabbed her handbag, and she put up a struggle before being shoved to the ground.
The man then ran off with her bag towards the Parkhead area. The woman was unhurt but shaken by the incident.
Two days later, a 76-year-old woman was pushed to the ground and had her bag snatched as she walked in Muir Wood Road, Currie, at 10.30am.
Detective Inspector Andy Wayth, of Wester Hailes police station, said: "Given the geographic locations of these attacks and the similarity of the victims, who are all every elderly women in their 70s or 80s, we do belive that one person may be responsible.
"Normally bag-snatching is a random, opportunistic crime, and it has certainly been a long time since we had a series of incidents like this.
"It is quite alarming that this man seems to have no regard for the safety of his victims, and we would remind people that while it is difficult, they should let go of the bag rather than risk injury to themselves.
"We are desperate to speak to anyone who may have information about these attacks, and we have a good description of the man, including a very descriptive jacket.
embroidered patches "It is probable he stays in or around the West Calder area, although we are not ruling out anything at the moment."
In the latest attack, the robber is described as aged in his early 20s around 5ft 11in tall, slim, clean shaven, with short blonde spiky hair.
He was wearing a dirty cream jacket, with navy blue sleeves which had a red "V" design on the left sleeve a
