CARACAMP, the Plymouth camping accessory business, was born in 1976, when the late Bryan and Audrey Jervis opened their shop in Peverell, after Bryan had retired from a long career in the Royal Navy.
The need for a specialist camping and caravanning accessory shop soon became apparent and Caracamp quickly outgrew these premises. Stebbings Shoe Shop in Fake Dior Handbags Union Street, which was on the market at the time, was purchased in 1979. After refurbishment it opened in November of the same year.
The business continued to grow, and in 1981, Bryan and Audrey realised that they needed an assistant manager. This is when Sue, the current owner, was employed. During the intervening years Union Street has altered beyond recognition, with the shops being replaced with nightclubs and takeaways but Caracamp, and one or two others, have stood the test of time.
Sue, now working with husband Terry, has seen many changes over the years within the industry but her detailed knowledge has often helped both locals and tourists alike out of a tight spot.
In fact, Chloe Fake with over 50 years' experience, the staff at Caracamp can often help solve the majority of problems.
